"When I go into the garden with a spade, and dig a bed, I feel such an exhilaration and health that I discover that I have been defrauding myself all this time in letting others do for me what I should have done with my own hands." Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
In our area, we have several different micoro-climates. Coastal and inland temps can be so drastically different on the same day. Regardless of where, in the County, you are, nothing tastes better than a fruit born of your labors. With plenty of local nurseries and even more seed companies on line, you are bound to find at least 1 fruit or vegetable that you will grow forever and buy no more. Oh...and tasting a fruit off your own tree is just as spectacular.
Reusing and repurposing items that would normally be thrown away is a great way to recycle and not having to buy new helps with sustainability...if you can make it, grow it or re-use it, you won’t need to buy it.
Whether you decided to have a garden or even a homestead, connecting with local like-minded people will help you in your goal to live by your means.

Sun dried tomatoes - these were made in the solar dehydrator from tomatoes I grew. Some weren't meant for drying, but the weather made it impossible to grow enough to do anything with them.
