One of the best ways to expanding your horizon is through foods. I think it is not only important that you teach your children to eat new foods, but that you set the example for your children and eat them, as well. I am guilty of that since I have a food phobia, but I am working on it. You may find that some of the new things you try may become a staple in your home.
The newest food that I have tried is lucuma. It is from Peru and it a very different fruit. I purchased it from the Vista Farmers Market, and it had 2 seeds inside and one was already sprouting. It has a yellow interior that is both
starchy and silky smooth. The ‘meat’ or flesh is LucumaTM is a trademark of Lucuma
washing your fingers or licking it off…for a long time.
Lucuma is considered a Superfood. The fruit is often dried and then used as flour. Many people whom I know have tried it suggested putting it into milk or smoothies. I’ve even seen that the powder is sold at health stores for its medicinal properties. I only tasted a sample at the market but decided when I got home I would put my fruit in the dehydrator. I am unsure what I will do with it, but I am sure I will experiment with many different recipes, hopefully, from Peru and locally. It supposedly is amazing in ice cream.
