When the girls were little, I used to sprinkle their pancakes with calendula flowers. It was a pretty presentation, especially when I used corn syrup (cringe) because the flowers would look glazed lying on the brown bed of pancakes. OK, I understand how horrible the corn syrup is, but I was young and dumb. Fast forward, I now know the benefits of calendula flowers, both herbal and culinary, and the evils of corn syrup.
I grow my own flowers and use them in infusions for skin issues and in a pain rub that I created for my hand. It’s still to be determined if I have fibromyalgia or RA or anything else that causes the pain and odd sensations in my body. Regardless, calendula is an amazing medicinal and doesn’t taste bad, either.
To make any salves, ointments or rubs with calendula, I first start with dried petals. You can purchase the pedals at most of the resources I have listed, or google other purveyors to obtain them. I believe *Amazon.com has almost everything you need at competitive prices. I take the dried leave and infuse them in oil. My last batch was in olive oil, but I think future will be in a carrier oil that absorbs into the skin better like carrot, jojoba or hemp.
In the picture, i have fresh picked calendula and pink dianthus petals drying.
Since both are edible I often dry at the same time, but for medicinal purposes I would keep them separate. Pretty, regardless of how they are done.

I have used these sites extensively and purchased from many of them. I am not reimbursed or paid to 'endorse', I share.
